TNC Acquires The Dog’s Butcher: A Game-Changer for the UK Raw Pet Food Market

The Nutrient Company (TNC), a leading pet food manufacturer, has acquired premium raw dog food firm The Dog’s Butcher in a strategic move to solidify its position in the UK’s raw pet food market.

This acquisition not only strengthens TNC’s portfolio but also provides access to more than 150 trade customers, further expanding its reach in the competitive pet food industry.

The Dog’s Butcher, known for its high-quality range of minces, chunks, and bones tailored for raw feeding, joins TNC’s esteemed stable of raw food brands, which includes Natural Instinct and Dibo.

Reflecting on the acquisition, The Dog’s Butcher co-founder expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that they were delighted when they met the people from TNC. They share their commitment to raw feeding and the quality of ingredients. Their dedication to the pet industry was really important to them.

Starting from humble beginnings, The Dog’s Butcher began operations in a garage with a single mincer and a chopping table.

In 2018, the company expanded into a former abattoir in Newton Abbot, occupying more than 7,500 square meters of space to meet growing demand. Its journey reflects a steadfast commitment to quality and innovation, traits that align seamlessly with TNC’s vision.

TNC’s managing director welcomed The Dog’s Butcher with open arms, expressing that this is great news for retailers, giving them a real choice with different formats and raw food brands – Nutriment, Natural Instinct, and Dibo – all from one manufacturer.

The director also highlighted TNC’s dedication to supporting independent stores in navigating the competitive pet food market, offering tools, products, and margins designed for their success.

Innovation remains at the heart of TNC’s mission. In 2024, the company introduced its Gently Steamed range as an alternative to raw feeding, and in January 2025, it launched nuggets in the UK.

Both product lines have seen phenomenal demand, reinforcing TNC’s position as a trailblazer in the pet food industry.

What’s more, this acquisition marks a significant milestone for both companies, combining The Dog’s Butcher’s expertise in raw feeding with TNC’s robust infrastructure and innovative approach.

Together, they are set to redefine the raw pet food landscape, offering unparalleled variety and quality for retailers and pet owners alike.

To conclude, as TNC and The Dog’s Butcher embark on this exciting new chapter, their shared commitment to quality and innovation ensures a bright future for the raw pet food market, with benefits that will resonate across the industry.
