Speciality Breads Invests £20M in the Future of Sustainable Baking

Speciality Breads has taken a bold step towards the future of baking with a £20 million investment in a brand-new, 180,000 sq ft bakery – a cutting-edge facility that sets new industry benchmarks in sustainability, efficiency, and innovation

Scheduled to be fully operational by the end of this year, the site will feature pioneering technology, including a UK-first electric/gas hybrid oven and a state-of-the-art production line, both supplied by Royal Kaak.

The company’s managing director has hailed the new site as the “bakery of the future,” highlighting its ability to merge sustainability with flexibility. The bespoke Royal Kaak production line enables Speciality Breads to maintain its expansive range of products while achieving a significant leap in quality and efficiency.

This investment is more than just an upgrade – it is a strategic move designed to futureproof the business for the next 20 years, allowing the company to strengthen partnerships with key customers and expand its presence into the retail market.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is at the heart of Speciality Breads’ transformation. The new facility is designed to generate its own solar electricity, significantly reducing reliance on external energy sources.

Additionally, the hybrid stone bake oven – a game-changing industry innovation – offers customers unprecedented control over their baking process. Those with high-volume orders will be able to specify the percentage of gas or electricity used, allowing for a tailored approach to sustainable production.

This investment follows Speciality Breads’ landmark partnership with Wildfarmed last year, making it the first large bakery in the United Kingdom to use regenerative flour across its entire range.

Customers can now dictate their own blend of Wildfarmed flour, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible baking.

A Bold Vision for the Future

With this multi-million-pound investment, Speciality Breads is not just modernising its operations – it is leading the way towards a more sustainable and responsible future for UK bakeries.

By seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technology with environmentally friendly practices, the company is poised to deliver unmatched quality and efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint.

This new era of baking innovation places Speciality Breads at the forefront of the industry, ensuring that its products remain as exceptional as ever, while paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
