Gordon & MacPhail Breaks Ground on £3.5m Warehouse

Gordon & MacPhail, the renowned family-owned Scotch whisky manufacturer, has commenced construction of a £3.5 million warehouse at its Benromach distillery in Forres

The project will bolster the continued growth of the Benromach brand by providing essential space for the storage and maturation of its highly sought-after single malt whisky. Scheduled for completion in late spring 2025, the warehouse will play a pivotal role in the brand’s ability to meet ever-growing demand.

Leading the construction is Robertson Construction Northern, a trusted partner that has worked closely with Gordon & MacPhail on four previous projects.

The new facility will be built in the traditional dunnage style – long and low, with an earthen floor – allowing for the consistent temperatures needed for proper whisky maturation. Once completed, the warehouse will feature a steel whitewash finish, in keeping with the aesthetic of the neighbouring buildings and the historic distillery.

Gordon & MacPhail, a name synonymous with single malt excellence since its founding in 1895, rescued the Benromach distillery from closure in 1993. Since then, they have modernised the facility while preserving traditional whisky-making practices.

According to the operations director, their award-winning single malt is a testament to the company’s dedication to craftsmanship, and additional warehouse space is critical to meet growing demand.

The collaboration between Gordon & MacPhail and Robertson Construction Northern is particularly noteworthy. Both companies share deep roots in Moray, a commitment to craftsmanship, and a strong emphasis on supporting the local community and supply chain.

Robertson Construction Northern’s regional managing director expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a distinguished whisky brand like Benromach.

Furthermore, the director noted that the warehouse will be instrumental in the maturation process and reiterated the long-standing partnership between the two family-run businesses.

In conclusion, Gordon & MacPhail’s latest investment in a new dunnage warehouse underscores the brand’s commitment to excellence and its preparation for future growth. With Robertson Construction Northern once again leading the way, the project brings together two respected local businesses with a shared vision of quality, tradition, and community.

What’s more, the expansion at Benromach distillery marks another milestone in the storied history of Gordon & MacPhail, ensuring that their world-class single malt will continue to delight whisky enthusiasts for generations to come.
