Galloway Cheddar Launches Campaign to Combat Food Insecurity

In a heartwarming initiative to tackle pressing social issues, Galloway Cheddar has announced the launch of the “Galloway Gathering Project” in collaboration with FareShare, the UK’s largest charity dedicated to food waste for social good.

This summer campaign aims to serve people in need across Scotland, addressing both loneliness and food insecurity with the equivalent of 90,000 meals donated and 800 kg of cheese supplied for free.

The project will see food trucks across Scotland cooking up dishes using Galloway cheese on special fundraising days, where customers will be invited to donate to FareShare. These fundraising days promise to be vibrant community events, featuring a variety of cheesy dishes that showcase the versatility and quality of Galloway Cheddar.

MasterChef winner and National Chef of Scotland, Gary Maclean, is lending his culinary expertise to the campaign. Maclean will host two events at FareShare’s regional partner sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow, where he will prepare mac n’ cheese for distribution to those in need.

The food vans will operate in a wide range of locations, spanning from the west and east coasts of Scotland to as far north as Caithness

This extensive reach ensures that the campaign can connect with diverse communities, bringing people together through the joy of shared meals. Each food truck event is designed not just to feed but also to foster a sense of community, encouraging social interactions that can alleviate feelings of loneliness.

Commenting on the project’s launch, the marketing director at Galloway’s parent company, Lactalis UK & Ireland, emphasised that the Gathering Project is an opportunity for Galloway Cheddar to give back to the community.

They highlighted that the campaign aligns with their values as a business rooted in rural Scotland and aims to create positive change by bringing people together over a meal or a chat.

The director also noted the significance of working with dedicated individuals and small independent food trucks across the country to form a united front for good. The work FareShare and its charity partners do on a daily basis is truly invaluable, they added.

What’s more, they are all proud to be playing their part in making sure there is ongoing support for those facing food insecurity and loneliness, especially at a time when the pressures of day-to-day living are being felt the hardest.

Meanwhile, the head of fundraising at FareShare expressed gratitude for Galloway Cheddar’s generous support. They stressed the importance of both food surplus and fundraising in helping FareShare get more food to those in need.

With a network of 8,500 charities and community groups across the United Kingdom, FareShare is working tirelessly to support individuals facing food insecurity and loneliness.

The head of fundraising explained that Galloway Cheddar’s support through engaging initiatives, such as the Galloway Gathering Project, helps people impacted by the cost of living crisis come together through food and access essential services. It’s about more than just meals; it’s about building community and providing a lifeline to those who need it most.

In conclusion, the Galloway Gathering Project represents a significant effort to combat food insecurity and loneliness in Scotland. By partnering with FareShare, Galloway Cheddar is making a meaningful difference in the lives of many, highlighting the power of community and the importance of coming together to support those in need.

This campaign not only delivers much-needed meals but also fosters a sense of connection and solidarity, reflecting the true spirit of social responsibility

Through the combined efforts of Galloway Cheddar, FareShare, and the dedicated food truck operators, the project aims to create lasting positive impacts and bring a bit of warmth and comfort to those who need it most.
