Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC) has announced a game-changing investment of over £10 million in upgrading equipment at its Northampton Brewery.
These transformative upgrades, scheduled to be operational in the first quarter of next year, represent a significant leap forward in sustainable brewing practices, while also enhancing production capabilities and reducing water usage.
The three major upgrades set to revolutionise CMBC’s Northampton Brewery include the installation of a second-generation machine specifically designed for packaging cans in Snap Pack format, a state-of-the-art laser can encoder, and an improved can filler and seamer.
Snap Pack technology, a groundbreaking innovation co-developed by Carlsberg Group and KHS GmbH, relies on an ingenious glue dot technology to securely bind cans together, effectively eliminating the need for plastic rings that have long contributed to environmental pollution.
Snap Pack has already made its mark on some of the most beloved beer brands in CMBC’s portfolio, including Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, San Miguel, Birrificio Angelo Poretti, and Brooklyn Pilsner. By the end of 2022, Snap Pack was being utilised in the production of 65% of the brewery’s four- and six-can multipacks.
The introduction of the second-generation Snap Pack machine will not only double the production capacity of Snap Pack multipacks but also facilitate a complete transition by the end of 2024.
