Beacon Foods Completes Expansion with Solar Panels to Power Sustainable Growth

Beacon Foods, a renowned supplier of premium ingredients and ready-to-eat products for the thriving food and drink industry, has achieved a remarkable milestone with the successful completion of a £6 million expansion project.

Over the course of three years, the company has undertaken an ambitious transformation, which includes not only doubling the size of its manufacturing and storage facilities but also embracing sustainability through the installation of 1,428 cutting-edge solar panels.

This landmark endeavour, conducted in close collaboration with Caplor Energy, promises to generate up to 500,000 kilowatts of electricity annually, solidifying Beacon Foods’ unwavering commitment to a greener, more prosperous future.

At the core of this visionary project is the deployment of 1,428 state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. Caplor Energy, a recognised leader in renewable energy solutions, was chosen as the trusted partner for this endeavour. These solar panels represent the dawn of a new era for Beacon Foods, providing an eco-conscious energy alternative.

The majority of the electricity produced will be directed to power the company’s extensive facilities at its Brecon, Wales headquarters, substantially reducing their carbon emissions. Furthermore, any surplus energy generated during weekends and off-peak hours may be seamlessly exported to the National Grid, making a meaningful contribution to the broader green energy network.

Beyond the installation of solar panels, Beacon Foods’ expansion project encompasses a considerable increase in facility size, expanding it to a sprawling 53,000 square feet. This expansion mirrors the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of its diverse clientele.

Furthermore, in tandem with the growth in physical space, there has been a substantial augmentation in production capacity, showcasing Beacon Foods’ dedication to delivering quality products at scale. To ensure these expanded facilities are fully equipped for the future, all infrastructure has been meticulously refurbished or entirely renewed, setting the stage for efficiency and innovation.

Notably, Beacon Foods has gone a step further by investing in a significant upgrade of its electricity supply infrastructure, thereby guaranteeing a seamless transition into a future characterised by increased energy demands. The expansion project also boasts a pronounced focus on environmental stewardship, exemplified by the comprehensive enhancements made to the waste water treatment processing plant.

This includes the introduction of two sizable storage tanks, each with a capacity exceeding 430 cubic litres. An innovative aeration system has been implemented to augment the biological processing capabilities, while new filters have been integrated, promising to increase potential discharge capacity to an impressive 150 cubic litres per day.

Founded in 1993, Beacon Foods has flourished over the years to become a thriving enterprise, employing 130 dedicated individuals. The company’s extensive reach extends to a broad spectrum of clients, including food manufacturers, food service providers, coffee shops, fast-food chains, and the travel and hospitality industries.

What’s more, within their diverse product portfolio, Beacon Foods specialises in the production of garlic, ginger, and chilli puree, roasted and chargrilled vegetables, fruit ranges, relishes, chutneys, sauces, and fruit compotes, catering to the discerning palates of their clientele.

In a reflection on this momentous achievement, Beacon Foods’ Chairman shared that the ability to generate their own sustainable energy with solar panels is a significant step forward, not only for Beacon Foods but also for their valued customers and the environment. With energy costs on the rise, this investment in solar panels is a strategic move as they prepare for continued business growth.

In conclusion, Beacon Foods’ recent expansion goes beyond bricks and mortar; it signifies an unwavering commitment to sustainability, innovation, and responsible business practices.

With the installation of 1,428 solar panels and the comprehensive facility upgrades, the company is poised for a future marked by clean energy, environmental responsibility, and increased production capabilities.

What’s more, Beacon Foods remains steadfast in its mission to serve its diverse clientele while making a significant contribution to a greener, more prosperous world.
