Asda’s Eco-Friendly Packaging for Just Essentials Beef Mince
In a pioneering move towards sustainability, Asda is revolutionising its packaging strategy by eliminating traditional plastic trays in favour of a lighter, recyclable alternative for its Just Essentials beef mince range.

Previously utilised from May 2022 through to January 2024, the traditional plastic trays are being phased out in favour of this sustainable alternative. The transition to vacuum-packaging not only enhances the product’s shelf life by removing oxygen, thereby reducing spoilage, but also optimises space utilisation within refrigerators.
Remarkably, despite its smaller size, the new packaging contains the same quantity of beef mince as its predecessor, ensuring consistency and value for customers.
Moreover, the switch to the new packaging method aligns with Asda’s overarching sustainability goals. As part of its commitment to reducing environmental impact, the supermarket has set a target to achieve 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.
